Painting the light
Learn to paint
Helping students to learn to paint the light and finding your own creative voice is paramount to me as a teacher. Coming from a background in formula painting I eventually found it stifling. My aim is to help you interpret colour, create form and have a whole lot of fun in the process. The learning curve is steep so don't worry if it doesn't all make sense straight away. It took me over 20 years to get to this point and I believe adopting the mantra 'I can't do it YET' will get you there.
Here is what I recommend......
Step 2
The important and most powerful part is learning the basics. These pre-recorded classes will give you the foundations in the fundamentals of painting. This is applicable to all mediums but are taught primarily in oils. You will learn about colour and tone/value, how to create form, gridding to simplify the drawing process and so many other important elements.
Step 3
There are several ways to learn from here.... you can continue to watch the advanced pre-recorded classes. Or......
The adventures we are having in the online classes are incredibly rewarding and a great way to learn and explore together.
One of the most frustrating things on the learning journey is knowing how to fix mistakes. If you conceptually understand the fundamentals but don't know how to spot mistakes early or how to fix them, join me. Each class I take a simple idea or concept and challenge it and push myself out of my comfort zone. Being 2 hours long I frequently refer back to the principles while introducing ideas that are worth exploring in bite sized pieces.
The classes are flexible and I tailor them to previous classes or requests, I encourage interaction, the only stupid question is the un-asked question.
