Working girls

Working girls

These draught horse ladies had just come back in from pulling a wool wagon through a dust storm. The amount of dust in the air and on the horses added an interesting element to working on this image. I've hidden little nuggets of pure colour throughout the painting. On first glance, it might seem to be simply a replica of a photo, but there is so much more. I enjoy the challenge of creating what appears to be the correct colour on the canvas by loading the constiuent colours that I would have mixed on the palette on my brush, and mixing them on the canvas instead. It is a greater challenge and very rewarding.
