Kathy Ellem
Palette knife flowers, 11-12 May 2019, at Kathy Ellem Fine Art Gallery
Cost: $240 for the two days, this includes the use of equipment and materials (1 canvas, paint etc), morning and afternoon tea. Time: 9.30am-4pm.
Plan for the 2 days:
General discussion on maintenance of equipment.
Step-by-step demonstration of a flower painting using a palette knife.
This workshop will be challenging, as palette knife painting requires brief, well-placed strokes. I will demonstrate by creating a lightly textured background then the placement of flowers loading the palette knife with multiple colours. This is a high energy workshop, with lots of messy fun.
Materials and equipment provided and covered in cost:
Easel and 20” by 30” canvas. Additional canvases will be available for purchase, as some participants may enjoy attempting more than one painting.
Oil paint: my favourite colours are Titanium white, cadmium yellow, cadmium red, magenta, violet, cyan blue, phthalo green. Basically, you will have a range of colours across the primary and secondary colours to work with.
Bits and pieces: Rags, palette knife, palette.
What you will need to bring:
Your own lunch or money to grab something from one of our local eateries.
A happy disposition: be prepared for lots of fun!
Outline of day:
Welcoming cuppa and set up at 9.30am on Saturday morning, we will stop for 1 hour at 12.30pm for lunch (there are many little cafés, and of course the bakery, available for lunch), afternoon tea at 3pm.
Be aware that your painting will be wet so you’ll need somewhere safe to put it to get it home — ideally cover the boot of your car with an old sheet or plastic table cloth.
