Painting the Australian Landscape
Workshop in Oils 5 Days — 17-21st March, 2020
Limited to 8
4 Places left
Painting the landscape is one of the most elusive art forms. Translating the inspiration derived from seeing a beautiful landscape in real life onto a canvas is the goal for this workshop.
In this extended workshop Kathy will begin with simple smaller landscapes as studies of colour and subject progressing to a larger painting incorporating elements from the smaller works. In this approach you will learn how to compose a classic Australian scene with animals and gum trees. She will demonstrate how you can use photo editing software to crop and compose composite images.
Materials included in the cost are: several canvas/boards to the value of $75 (I will also have a variety of sizes available for purchase), a good selection of paints on a palette (more paints will be available for purchase), use of an easel, ‘turps jar’ for washing brushes, gamsol studio solvent, vinyl gloves, paper towel and a plastic bag for rubbish.
Cost: $500 for 5 days (introductory value). Time: 9.30am-4pm daily. Workshop numbers are limited to 8, but a minimum of 5 people will be required for the workshop to go ahead. Confirmation will be given 2 weeks out from the workshop. Cancellations can be made up to 2 weeks prior. We ask for a 50% deposit on booking.
This workshop will be held at Kathy Ellem Fine Art, 45 Ford Street, Beechworth.

‘Bring along some reference photos. Please keep them simple, something with, say, a gum tree in the foreground, and perhaps some hills in the distance. Bring several samples so that we might be able to choose the best one. Ideally the subject will be well lit, with nice shadows.’
